Nursing School stunt my hair growth?

NURSING SCHOOL IS VERY STRESSFUL. THERE ARE ALWAYS CHANGES AND THINGS YOU HAVE TO ADAPT TO AT THE LAST MINUTE EVEN SECONDS SOMETIMES. COULD THIS POSSIBLIE BE A LINK TO MY INCREASED SHEDDING?

I AM NOT AN EXPERT ON THIS TOPIC, BUT I AM TAKING CARE OF MY HAIR TO MY KNOWLEGE AND THE SHEDDING THAT COMES ALONG WITH GREAT HAIR CARE IS NOT ADDING UP... MORAL OF THIS STORY, I AM STRESSED AND NEED TO DESTRESS QUICK!

FIRST SALON VIST IN A YEARS TIME!

So, I stopped going to the salon a year ago for 2 reasons I wanted to learn how to do my own hair, and it was getting too expensive. Now that I have been taking care of my hair myself I have maintained the thickness... going to the salon before this I would always leave with thin, thin, hair due to excessive heating, or over processing till I have bone straight relaxed hair.

Since I have been on the journey for these 6 months I have relaxed my hair 3 times on my own and on all occasions I have under processed my hair, which is better than over processing because it keeps more protein in the hair strand making it stronger than bone straight strands. My last relaxer and heat pass was feb. 14th 2013 and there was a lot of texture left in my hair which made it take longer to straighten my hair with the blow dryer at the salon (this was a sign that I am doing something right!!!).

I may incorporate a salon visit once every 2 months or so into my regimen. The reason why is because manipulating my hair in a straight state leaves a hell of a lot less breakage, when it is thick and coiled I see way more broken hairs in my wide tooth comb or on my hands even with gentle manipulation. So, I choose less breakage over more breakage.

I made it to line 6, a whole 2 months before my goal!!

HAIR GOALS FOR FEBUARY!!

THESE ARE MY GOALS TO ACHIEVE IN A 28 DAY TIME PERIOD...
  1. SPOIL MY NAPE WITH MOISTURE, OIL, AND LOVE
  2. KEEP MY HAIR UP OFF SHOULDERS FOR THE WHOLE 28 DAYS OF  THE MONTH
  3. BABY THE ENDS OF MY HAIR WITH MOISTURE AND OIL 2X A DAY
  4. STAY ON TOP OF MOISTURIZING NEW GROWTH WITH S-CURL NO DRIP (I HAVE BEEN SLACKING)
  5. NEVER MISS A DEEP CONDITION DAY!!
IT HAS COME TO THE END OF THE MONTH AND I AM HAPPY TO SAY THAT I HAVE MET ALL OF THESE GOALS. I HAVE BABIED MY NAPE AND ENDS, USED UP MY S-CURL NO DRIP MOISTERIZING MY ROOTS, KEPT MY HAIR IN A BUN FOR 28 DAYS, AND NEVER MISSED A DEEP CONDITION BECAUSE IT IS MY NEW FOUND HOBBY.. SO PROUD!!

NEW ADDITIONS?

I have become bored with the wait. I want to see some progress and I want to see it fast. So, yes I have decided to try things and I am now waiting for the results of them.... but here is the catch I am trying to stay away from heat. Heat can definitely cause breakage, but it can also give me a great view of my current length retained. Hmmm, I really don't know how I am suppose to check my growth progress but not stretch my hair the way I want to is just not going to work, especially if I want to enjoy the length and get a accurate length measurement.

Things I have added:
Hairfinity
Head Inversions
Miconazole Nitrate

HERE WE GO, FROM THE TOP!

I started my hair journey in August of 2012 after stumbling on a few videos on YouTube. I never thought to grow my hair out long. I never really paid attention to my hair to be honest (I was a ponytail girl). Then I started thinking back into the past and looking at old pictures and realized that my hair never really grew passed armpit level in my teenage to adult life. (when I was younger it was a different story)... so, then I said to myself ,"hey why not give it a try, Is it really possible to take care of my hair in such a way that It will grow passed my shoulders, waist and beyond"?

I have always been the kind of girl to be pampered, my hair and nails were always done for me at salons. That's when I realized that I really don't know a thing about taking care of my hair. I had to do research on top of research and created what I feel may work to help me reach my goal of waist length hair. The key elements so far have been:

  • Deep conditioning
  • Keeping my hair moisturized
  • Always tying my hair up at night
  • not wearing tight ponytails

It has now been six months and counting on this journey, and I feel I have learned a lot about my hair, but still have  far much more to learn. I purchased a length check t-shirt to help gauge my progress and I will say that I have moved from a line 2 on the shirt to a line 5 in the six months by taking care of my hair all by my lonesome... I am pretty proud of myself but I want more... and damn it I shall have more.

Stay tuned!

WHO AM I?

Just to clear the air I am a 25 year old nursing student, with many goals planned to achieve. The goals that I will be focusing on in this blog are:

1. Graduate from my program (and continue my education)
2. Grow healthy hair
3.Maintain healthy hair

I am a very simple to life kinda girl and don't like things to be to complicated. I believe anything and everything in this world has a simpler form that includes nursing, life, love, friendships/relationships, success, etc. I just love a stress free way of living and thinking (thanks to yoga!).
